The “New Quality of Work” programme is another way in which the German federal government is working to improve labour conditions and achieve its forward-looking goal of helping people to maintain their job skills and employability.
At the heart of the programme are specific changes that are intended to test, practically adapt and further develop working conditions, in particular organisation and qualification structures, within the working world.
These goals will be implemented as part of the "New Quality of Work Initiative”, INQA. Crucial support for the INQA, which is Germany’s contribution to the European Council’s Lisbon Strategy for “more and better jobs”, will come from social partners, social insurance, foundations and businesses.
The programme follows an integrated approach, collaborating closely with the pilot programme for the prevention of work-related illnesses, which seeks to explain how working conditions affect health.
The goals of “New Quality of Work” include:
Helping people to further their job skills and learning abilities throughout their careers
Opening up opportunities for positive, productive collaboration between people of different sexes, different nationalities and different generations
Identifying ways and means of drawing economic benefits from demographic challenges
Activating labour reserves by increasing the number of women, young people and disabled people in employment
Solving problems that older people face with regard to being fully accepted on the labour market and in the workplace
Identifying alternative career paths for those facing particular challenges
The intended outcome of the programme is to identify new methods and change processes, and to publish useful approaches for their strategic and operational management, including quality assurance processes.
The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) has commissioned gsub – Gesellschaft für soziale Unternehmensberatung mbH to implement the programme.
